 Steve Van Bockern Steven Van Bockern, Ed.D,Director, Augustana Institute for Reclaiming Students and Professor of Education, Augustana College

Steve Van Bockern is Professor of Education at Augustana College and former President of Reclaiming Youth International. Drawing on experience as a public school principal and teacher at the elementary and secondary levels, Dr. Van Bockern consults with numerous schools and alternative education programs throughout North America. He has directed grants for the National Science Foundation and the Kellogg Foundation and has developed programs for talented students. Dr. Van Bockern serves as co-director for the Black Hills Seminars and is a senior trainer for the Life Space Crisis Intervention Institute of Hagerstown, Maryland and Response Ability Pathways, Lennox, South Dakota.

Dr. Van Bockern has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Augustana College, a Master of Art's degree in Educational Administration and a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of South Dakota. His publications include: Reclaiming our Youth. Restructuring for Caring and Effective Education: Piecing the Puzzle Together, Second Edition,(co-authored with Larry Brendtro and Martin Brokenleg, 1999), Reclaiming Youth in Youth Adult Partnerships Unity in Diversity (1998), Reclaiming Youth at Risk: Our Hope for the Future (co-authored with Larry Brendtro and Martin Brokenleg, 1990, republished 2004) along with numerous journal articles, including in the publication Reclaiming Youth and Children, where he serves as Senior Editor.
