You may have heard of the Court’s innovative approach to partnering with families to help resolve CHINS issues, and promote family reunification. The model used by the Court to facilitate this is American Humane Association’s Family Group Decision Making model. On March 14 and 15, 2007 Allen Superior Court and Great KIDS make Great COMMUNITIES will sponsor training on this facilitation tool.

March 14, 2007 will focus on fundamental principles of Family Group Decision Making, the Court’s use of this technique to promote family reunification and resolution of issues, the difference between Family Group Decision Making and Family Team Meetings, and how Family Group Decision Making principles can apply to other areas of service with youth and families, including in your agency. Please find a training overview following this letter.

March 15, 2007 will be devoted to learning how to apply and execute the Family Group Decision Making model. You will learn the “how to’s” of Family Group Decision Making, and how these techniques can be applied to your work with youth and families.

Training will be from 8:00am to 4:30pm both days, and will be held at the Great Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce is located in downtown Fort Wayne at the intersection of Wayne and Ewing Streets at 826 Ewing Street. We will be meeting the Anthony Wayne Ballroom and breakfast and lunch will be served both days.

To reserve your place and register your staff for this event, please contact Great KIDS make Great COMMUNITIES Coordinator Megan Kelly at (260) 449-7272 or via email at mkelly@greatkidsallencounty.org. In order to properly plan for this event we would appreciate your response no later than March 5, 2007. This training is offered at no cost to you. However, if you register to attend and are unable to cancel with sufficient notice, you or your agency will be billed for your food cost.

I look forward to seeing you at the Chamber on March 14 and 15, 2007.

Regards,
Charles F. Pratt, Judge
